Litton and Hinton Blewett WI
May 2022
The day of our WI Centenary Celebration dawned with pouring rain, which dampened the spirits of the hardworking committee. However, the Gods were with us and by 5.00 pm the sun was shining brightly. We all met for Pimms, canapés and conversations in the garden opposite the Hall.
Many members were dressed in 1922 styles and all looked smart. There were many visitors and previous members, when called for tea, we were greeted with “waitresses” dressed as Lyons Cornerhouse waitresses (nippys), in traditional black dresses with white aprons and headdresses. Afternoon tea was elegant from a bygone era.
The Centenary cake was cut by our oldest members and bubbly wine was served
and toasts given to the Queen and the WI.
We were urged to live down the Jam & Jerusalem image of the WI and to show the strength of united women and what can be achieved by them.
Our new Centenary banner had just been completed and was on display; it was much-admired by all. Thanks to the Sewing Team !
A disco and dancing followed led by committee members showing their expertise with the Charleston.
