November Newsletter

Litton and Hinton Blewett WI

November 2022

There was a good crowd of members at the November meeting in Litton Village Hall.  All were welcomed with a glass of wine and June, our President, gave us the news of recent events.

Seven of our members attended the A.G.M. of Somerset Federation in Taunton and had a fun- filled day.  It is always exciting to feel part of the wider W.I. at these big events.  After the usual business, there were some guest speakers. The entertainment began with some songs from one of the members, who used to be singer on the cruise ships.  Next, the Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Police Force, Sarah Crew – the first female to hold this position – gave a full account of her career in the service.  Finally, The Rev. Kate Bottley, vicar, T.V. presenter and journalist had everyone in stitches as she told the story of how she got here.

A large number of shoe boxes filled by members with Christmas goodies was donated to the local YM and YWCAs and lots of Bags of Hugs full of items to help women fleeing from abusive relationships were given for those in need of help at this time. Thanks to all who contributed to these and helped make them up.

County News was reviewed and lots of forthcoming events were highlighted.

Our speaker for the evening had unfortunately cancelled but the gap was filled by member, Hazel Hillman, showing us how to make Christmas crackers.  The hall was a hive of activity when we all had a go with much fun and laughter round the tables.

We meet on the second Wednesday of each month in Litton Hall at 7.30 and always welcome guest and new members.
